Thoughts and Prayers

Dear Book Friends,

I usually don't write a lot outside of books, but earlier this week something happened in a community where I'm from. A 17 year-old honor student from Poway High School disappeared from the Rancho Bernardo Community Center. Someone is in custody right now on charges for rape and murder. But Chelsea King is still no where to be found.

I grew up in this area of San Diego. And I guess that's why this topic is hitting so close to home (If you remember the big fire in San Diego a couple years ago...this is the area that was hit pretty hard). I basically spent my childhood at this community center (brother's pop warner games, my basketball games/practices, brother and sister's baseball/softball games, nieces soccer games, and now my nephews play their sports there). The community center is right next to Lake Hodges and has some hiking trails around it. I pray and hope that Chelsea can be found. My thoughts and prayers go out to all her loved ones.

There is a lot going on in the world right now, but if you can add Chelsea King and her family to your thoughts and prayers...thank you.

Let's bring Chelsea back home!!!

  1. We'll add our thought and prayers to yours. Hopefully she'll be home soon! This is so tragic and sad.

  2. Thanks Alyssa...I'm not there right now in RB, but I know that area is really sad. It is soooo sad and hard to understand how this can happen in a place that is so familiar. Continue to keep thinking about the King family during this difficult time.

  3. I know how you feel; it's scary isn't it? Last fall, a 5 year old went missing from my community, from a few doors down from where my brother's best friend lived. The mom let her wander around outside on her own AND, it turns out, her boyfriend was a sex offender.
Her body was found in concrete in the river that runs through town about a week later. They still haven't officially charged anyone. And even with all this craziness going on, my mom and I would be out somewhere and see young kids out playing on their own, no where near being in sight of their parents. It made me sick.
Hope she's found, and soon, hopefully safe and sound, but for closure if nothing else.

  4. There are some people in this world that are just so disgusting. But just to let you know Misty, they found her kind of buried next to the lake. At least her family can find some closure. And luckily, they found a guys DNA on her underwear and were able to get the guy within days of her disappearance. Now we just wait for his trial (and he's connected to one attack, that the girl was able to get away, and they're trying to see if he's connected to another missing girl).

    RIP're an angel now.
