Friday Finds (08/21/09)

Here are the books I bought this week...& the pile of books in my room continue to grow...
From the back cover of Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan
Love is never easy. Especially if you're Paul. He's a sophomore at a high school like no other---and these are his friends: Infinite Darlene, the homecoming queen and star quarterback. Joni, Paul's best friend who may not be his best friend anymore. Tony, his other best friend, who can't leave the house unless his parents think he's going on a date...with a girl. Kyle, the ex-boyfriend who won't go away. Rip, the school bookie, who sets the odds...And Noah, The Boy. The one who changes everything. LOVE MEETS LOVE. CONFUSION MEETS CLARITY. BOY MEETS BOY.

Steve Harmon's black. He's in jail, maybe forever. He's on trial for murder. And he's sixteen years old.

Fade in: Interior: Early morning in cell block D, Manhattan Detention Center.

Steve (voice-over) Sometimes I feel like I have walked into the middle of a movie. Maybe I can make my own movie. The film will be the story of my life. No, not my life, but of this experience. I'll call it what the lady prosecutor called me...MONSTER.

From the back cover of The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.
